Bike of the Day: “Triton” Cafe Racer

A hand-built Triton café racer

Blending two legends into one unmistakable machine, today’s featured bike is a hand-built Triton café racer completed in 2020. Marrying a modified Norton slimline frame with a rebuilt 649cc parallel-twin engine sourced from a 1966 Triumph Bonneville, this custom creation embodies the spirit of vintage British performance with a purposeful, minimalist edge.

Finished in a timeless black-and-gold scheme, the bike showcases clean, understated craftsmanship. Its bodywork sits over the reworked Norton chassis and includes stainless-steel fenders, a revised Norton Dominator fuel tank, a sculpted solo seat, and a sleek rear cowl. A classic round headlight and compact taillight complete the stripped-back aesthetic, while a center stand adds a touch of practicality.

Rolling on wire-spoke wheels—19 inches up front and 18 inches at the rear—the setup features black Norton hubs laced to lightweight Borrani alloy rims, wrapped in Dunlop Roadmaster tires. Suspension duties are handled by a Norton Roadholder fork paired with dual rear shocks, delivering that signature vintage ride feel. Stopping power comes from drum brakes on both ends, including a twin leading-shoe front setup for improved braking performance.

Up top, the chrome handlebar is fitted with bar-end mirrors and mounted on risers just behind a friction-style steering damper. Staying true to its old-school roots, the bike forgoes a traditional key, instead using a simple On/Off switch mounted directly on the chrome headlight bucket.

At its heart lies the rebuilt air-cooled 649cc parallel twin, equipped with modern upgrades like VAPE electronic ignition, a Wassell stator, and a Podtronic regulator/rectifier for improved reliability. Twin Amal Premier 930 carburetors handle fueling, while custom head pipes feed into reverse-megaphone mufflers, giving the bike a sharp, unmistakable exhaust note. Power is delivered to the rear wheel through a four-speed gearbox with a right-side shifter and chain final drive.
