Now offered for sale on Bring a Trailer, this extensively reengineered 1982 Honda CBX Super Sport represents a striking fusion of classic Japanese engineering and modern high-performance motorcycle technology. Originally acquired by its builder as a collection of separate components, the motorcycle was painstakingly transformed into a bespoke restomod that blends the iconic character of Honda’s legendary six-cylinder machine with contemporary chassis, suspension, and electronic upgrades.
At the heart of the build is Honda’s celebrated 1,047cc air-cooled DOHC inline-six engine, which underwent a comprehensive overhaul in September 2024. The restoration process included vapor blasting key aluminum components and the installation of upgraded internal hardware such as DSS pistons, NPR piston rings, fresh gaskets, and renewed valve train components sourced from Tims CBX.
Performance enhancements extend beyond the rebuild, incorporating Keihin FCR carburetors, a Tims CBX alternator conversion, Dyna electronic ignition components, and a DG six-into-one exhaust system. Braided oil lines further complement the upgraded powerplant, which channels output through a multi-plate clutch, five-speed transmission, and chain final drive.
The chassis modernization is equally impressive. A rebuilt Suzuki GSX-R1000 inverted front fork, installed using a Cognito Moto conversion system, works alongside an Öhlins piggyback monoshock and steering damper to deliver significantly improved handling dynamics. At the rear, a single-sided swingarm and wheel assembly sourced from a 2013 Ducati 848 provide a dramatic visual statement while enhancing suspension performance.
Braking duties are handled by a premium Brembo setup featuring radial front calipers and a Brembo P34 rear caliper. Additional upgrades include Brembo control levers, Vortex clip-on handlebars, Motogadget electronic controls, Daytona instrumentation, LED lighting, rear-set foot controls, and a carbon-fiber front fender.
Finished in a custom red-and-white paint scheme with black graphics, complemented by a powder-coated black frame and diamond-stitched solo saddle, this CBX is a highly individualized interpretation of one of Honda’s most iconic motorcycles, combining vintage appeal with modern performance and craftsmanship.
