Now available for purchase through Bring a Trailer, this extensively reimagined 1979 Honda CX500 Custom has been transformed into a distinctive street tracker that blends classic Honda engineering with premium modern components. The previous owner carried out a comprehensive custom build, replacing much of the original running gear with high-performance upgrades while preserving the motorcycle’s dependable liquid-cooled V-twin platform.
The motorcycle is finished in a striking white paint scheme accented by a bold black center stripe extending across the fuel tank, flyscreen, and café-inspired tail section. A handcrafted buffalo hide solo seat complements the minimalist styling, while a high-mounted front fender, shortened rear fender, PSR side stand, and integrated fuel-level sight contribute to both practicality and visual appeal. The purposeful tracker design is further enhanced by a modern LED headlight and sleek bodywork that balances vintage character with contemporary execution.
The chassis benefits from significant suspension and braking improvements. Up front, the Yamaha R6 fork is paired with radial-mounted brake calipers and Suzuki GSX-R wave brake rotors for stronger stopping performance. At the rear, a custom Penske monoshock works alongside a Ducati Brembo brake caliper and matching rotor. The lightweight Excel Warp 9 17-inch wheels, connected to custom Cognito Moto hubs, are wrapped in Michelin Road 6 tires, providing enhanced grip, stability, and confidence across a variety of road conditions.
Rider controls have also been comprehensively modernized. A black one-piece handlebar mounted on Outlaw risers incorporates ASV control levers, Tomaselli grips, Rizoma brake fluid reservoir, Motogadget bar-end turn signals, and integrated bar-end mirrors. Instrumentation comes from a GPS-based Speedhut multifunction gauge featuring a 120-mph analog speedometer, a 12,000-rpm tachometer, and a digital display indicating approximately 6,000 miles accumulated since the completion of the custom build.
Power comes from Honda’s liquid-cooled 496cc V-twin, which received a complete overhaul with .025-inch-over pistons before being fitted with Mikuni carburetors, K&N air filters, and a handcrafted stainless-steel two-into-two exhaust system. Engine output is delivered through a five-speed manual transmission and Honda’s signature enclosed driveshaft, maintaining the reliability and low-maintenance characteristics that made the CX500 a respected platform for custom motorcycle projects.
