FOR SALE: Triton Cafe Racer

A meticulously crafted Triton café racer

A meticulously crafted Triton café racer is now available for bidding on Bring a Trailer, showcasing one of the most celebrated hybrid motorcycle combinations in British motorcycling history. Completed after a two-year build in 2017, the custom machine was acquired by its current owner in 2021 and preserved as a display piece until it was recently returned to running condition through an extensive recommissioning process.

Before being offered for sale, the motorcycle underwent a comprehensive mechanical refresh after several years in static storage. The work included cleaning the dual carburetors, replacing the intake inlet stubs, rebuilding both fuel petcocks, performing an oil service, and installing a new battery, ensuring the bike is once again ready for the road.

At the heart of the build is a 744cc overhead-valve parallel-twin engine sourced from a 1978 Triumph Bonneville T140E. Mounted within a legendary Norton Featherbed Slimline frame using custom-engineered mounts, the powerplant combines Triumph’s dependable twin-cylinder performance with the renowned handling characteristics of the Featherbed chassis. The engine is paired with a five-speed transmission that delivers power to the rear wheel via chain drive.

Performance enhancements include a pair of 32mm Mikuni TM-Series flat-slide carburetors, a Boyer electronic ignition system, a Sparx alternator, and a Podtronics voltage regulator. Exhaust gases flow through a high-mounted two-into-one system finished in black and capped with a tunable SuperTrapp muffler, offering both improved performance and a distinctive exhaust note.

The motorcycle’s styling remains faithful to traditional café racer aesthetics while incorporating premium handcrafted components. A polished Burton Bike Bits three-gallon Sprint-style aluminum fuel tank dominates the profile, complemented by matching custom aluminum side panels, an aluminum oil tank, a stainless-steel front fender, an aluminum rear fender, and a black fiberglass solo seat cowl trimmed with black vinyl upholstery. Lossa Engineering rear-set foot controls reinforce the bike’s sporting riding position.

Handling is supported by rebuilt Norton Roadholder front forks fitted with progressive-rate 25/35 springs and preload-adjustable Koni rear shock absorbers. An adjustable piston-type steering damper further enhances stability, while 18-inch Excel alloy wheels laced with Buchanan’s stainless-steel spokes are wrapped in Michelin Pilot Activ tires. Braking is handled by ventilated drum brakes at both ends.

The cockpit features a chrome handlebar fitted with Halcyon bar-end mirrors and a Koso TNT multifunction instrument cluster, which combines an analog tachometer with an LCD display providing speed and other essential riding information. The result is a thoughtfully engineered Triton that successfully blends vintage British character with carefully selected modern upgrades, making it an appealing offering for collectors and enthusiasts seeking a highly detailed, road-ready café racer.
