This 1982 Yamaha XV920 Virago presents a compelling reinterpretation of Yamaha’s early V-twin cruiser, transformed under current ownership into a sharply executed café racer–bobber hybrid. Acquired by the seller in 2017, the bike has undergone a comprehensive cosmetic and mechanical overhaul, balancing vintage character with modernized performance and handling.
The visual identity is defined by a powder-coated black frame and a reshaped silhouette, highlighted by a Yamaha XV750 Virago–sourced fuel tank refinished in black and satin gray with hand-applied white pinstriping by Herb Martinez. A custom-fabricated rear subframe supports a minimalist Biltwell solo saddle, while dual hooded headlights, bar-end mirrors, and mid-mounted controls reinforce its stripped-back, purposeful stance.
Chassis and suspension upgrades significantly elevate the riding dynamics. A 2006 Yamaha YZF-R6 inverted fork and matching R6 Race–specification front wheel introduce modern front-end precision, complemented by dual front disc brakes. Out back, a Virago 1100–sourced 15-inch rear wheel is paired with a 2005 R6 piggyback monoshock via a De Stijl Moto adapter, enhancing rear suspension response. Shinko SR777 tires complete the setup.
Power comes from the air-cooled 920cc SOHC V-twin, retained in its original configuration but refreshed with rebuilt Hitachi carburetors and re-jetted using a Sigma 6 kit to suit the 485 Designs two-into-one exhaust. Electrical upgrades include a Rick’s Motorsport Electrics regulator-rectifier, a custom wiring harness, and a compact Antigravity lithium battery.
