Who didn’t love the seventies? Great cars and motorbikes, great music, great parties and of course Marsha Brady. There’s a lot about that decade that still puts a smile on many a face, for one custom workshop though it’s the seventies that shapes their creations.

Spirit of the Seventies is a custom motorcycle workshop in Kent (United Kingdom) owned and run by friends Kev Taggart and Tim Rogers. The workshop is the manifestation of a dream to build nostalgic, classic, custom motorcycles from that iconic era or in a reminiscent style.

The motorcycles that roll out of Spirit of the Seventies are the combined creation of their owners and the Spirit team. Kev and Tim are ultimately responsible for the final outcome but they understand an owners need to add their own touch, a characteristic I greatly admire.
Clean lines, tasteful paint schemes and highly functional modifications are a must on every Spirit of the Seventies custom motorcycle. Applying just as much focus on the show as the go, their custom builds will please their riders just as much as their onlookers. Three such custom builds are outlined below for your viewing pleasure.

THE SPIRIT 1: 750CC Twin
Based on a 1976 Kawasaki Z750 B1; stripped back and lightened with a shortened subframe, lowered at the front (18’ front wheel) and new adjustable shocks to improve the ride. Pirelli dirt tyres add to its classic street-scrambler character.

SPIRIT 2: 850CC triple

Here we have Spirit MD Tim’s very own, Spirit-built ’79’ S2 road racer. It started life as a sedate 1979 Yamaha XS750 tourer, since re-engined to 850cc for more torque and reliability, dropped at the front and raised at the back for sharper steering and better handling, and a glorious three-cylinder bark from it’s new exhaust system. SPIRIT 3: 650CC Twin
A 1978 Yamaha XS650, with improved looks and performance courtesy of being stripped and lightened, Keihin flatslide performance carbs and filters, R6 front calliper with floating rotor, Tarozzi forkbrace, new rear shocks, a bespoke twin-exit exhaust system and racing bodywork to create a classic street-tracker, Spirit style.(available from £8450)
